"Around 1965, I went to church and heard a priest describe Vietnam as a holy war. That's when I walked out. Something told me he's dead wrong."
-----Martin Scorsese, from Rolling Stone interview (40th Anniversary edition)
Why we continue to ascribe God's name to ventures that run counter to His explicitly stated desires is beyond me. I wonder how many others have shut the door on God for similar reasons?

Confusing the actions of religious people with the truth of religion is even further beyond me. "Some wars were started because of religion, therefore religion is false". Arrrgh!
But I have to say, it's one of the most difficult problems for me as a believer. .. .other believers acting badly. I know it's wrong per your point, but it still bugs me, and I use that word heavily!
you gotta love the marty; he's dead right.
