McLuhan vs. Mailer
Check out this google video with McLuhan and Mailer. Good stuff, especially watching it 40 years later! Who wins in hindsight?

one of the most enlightening classes i took as an undergrad was human communication 101. it was with one wild and charismatic throw back to the sixties (who, btw, was a figure in some of my most personal develoments...uhhh, another story).
MM's "the medium is the message" has subsumed beneath our discussions, strat, at other blogs. the non-verbal, unspoken, covert meta-message is the most powerful message. in this way, MM is a communicative genius.

yeah, particularly true of blogs. I can't help siding with Mailer's complaints about McLuhan though. . .that he makes no value judgments about the changes he sees bothers me. . ..at least in the little I've read. I'd like to read more.. . .
